Soft Robotic Hand
Soft Robotic Hand Demo
The design of this robotic hand is completely unlike conventional robotic hands due to it being made of entirely silicone rubber, and actuation occurs pneumatically. The benefits of implenting this hand is to be able to grasp very soft, delicate objects that conventional metal robots cannot. It is very safe for implementation in households around children, and the raw material cost is substantially lower than its conventional counterpart. It was engineered to grasp large as well as fine objects as shown in the video on the left.
Aim: To design and construct a soft robotic hand that is capable of grasping effectively, small objects found in the household (i.e fruits, bottles, pencils), with weights ranging from 0-500g.
Skills applied: Non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Solid Modelling CAD, Python PL, Control System Implementation, Pneumatic and Structural calculations, Prototype Testing.
Outcome: Successful prototype built and tested, high durability, with replaceable parts, and able to grasp intended objects with ease.
